Service Technician/Mechanic-Madison, SD

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position is crucial for keeping the greenhouse equipment and mechanical systems functioning at optimal performance in order to ensure successful growing operations. A desire and willingness to learn new skills is critical.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to):

Equipment Use:

  • Perform equipment maintenance necessary including routine maintenance and adjustments to ensure optimal greenhouse efficiency.
  • Rebuilding or replacing parts where needed
  • Fabricate or customize specialized equipment needed for greenhouse production
  • Occasional welding, painting

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Perform routine safety inspections on equipment used in greenhouse production. Observe all laws and safety procedures associated with mechanization used in greenhouse production.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and proactively initiate cost-effective solutions.

Greenhouse Upkeep:

  • Always maintain facilities in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain communication with Manager when needed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to operate a variety of greenhouse production equipment such as farm tractors, skid loaders, forklifts, front-end loader, tree spade, semi-tractor/trailer, or others as required.
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in basic equipment maintenance such as welding, engine, electrical, transmission, hydraulics and other related work.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Class B license OR be willing to be trained and obtain Class B license is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Willingness to learn and be trained on company equipment and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet or exceed deadlines while maintaining greenhouse safety standards.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively work with a team and independently. 
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, flexible with work hours, and willing to be available when necessary.

Typically, those in this or comparable roles will spend most of their time working side-by-side employees in a production and greenhouse environment with few physical hazards.  The business is seasonal, and environments can at times be dusty, warm, and humid.
